BeachTek DXA-5Da Passive Dual XLR Audio Adapter for DSLR Cameras with Mic Jack,

The BeachTek DXA-5Da is a two-channel, transformer balanced XLR adapter for attaching external microphones and other audio gear to any DSLR camera that has a built-in mic jack. It can also be used with any camcorder or other audio recording device that has a mic jack. The DXA-5Da uses high quality balancing transformers, which are completely noise free for superb audio. The DXA-5Da is very easy to set up and use. It allows you to connect a wide variety of audio devices including professional microphones, wireless systems and even take a feed from a house sound system or mixer. The built-in level meters show the input signal strength at a glance while the trim controls allow you to adjust the input level for optimum recording. The headphone jack lets you monitor the audio that is coming out of the adapter. A unique feature of the DXA-5Da is the ability to control the wild swings of the Auto Gain Control that plague most cameras. This dramatically reduces noise during quiet moments of recording. This is our first stab at a functional teleprompter...and it works great! It consists of an old LCD monitor, wood, cardboard, glass, duct tape, and hanging file folder dividers. The software was the most expensive part, and even that was cheap. We'll make tweaks and pretty it up as time goes on, but for now it's doing the job!

If you're interested in how this baby works:
The monitor lies face up in the wooden box, projecting the image onto the angled glass (plain glass, but you can also use half-silvered mirror for the best effect) and toward the talent. The camera is then mounted behind the glass where it can record the talent without seeing the words (thanks to the magic of physics). The camera can see reflections from the ceiling, however, so the piece of cardboard on top blocks these out. The software is running on a laptop (not shown) with dual monitor support, allowing us to control the teleprompter remotely.

There are lots of variations on how to build these -- our method was based solely on the stuff we happened to have lying around. :) If you're interested, search "DIY teleprompter" and you'll find tons of images and videos.

This is where the magic happens. haha The man cave is an office and bedroom hybrid so therefore I spend a lot of time in here either sleeping, doing homework, or editing photos.

Today I received some concerning news... :/ for one, we no longer own our house so that means we have to move out within the next six months and two the passat might be totaled because the damage might be more than 70% percent of what the car is worth. kinda of a poopy note to end my night on :/
